Damson Bridge

For 6 dancers (4 women, 2 men).

Dance on. The women are in positions 1 to 4, men in 5 and 6. 1, 2 and 5 face 3, 6 and 4.

                     1         5           2

                3          6           4

Women step 1,2,3,4, then dance forward on step 5, clash on 8 with their opposite dancer, then dance to that person's place.  Men dance forward on step 9, clash on 12, then dance to the opposite place. The two lines end up reversed.

DANCE ROUND 8 steps round in circle – clockwise (sticks on shoulder), then 8 steps circling outwards on left shoulder into the formation below, with the two men slightly back out of the line of the women.

CHORUS Sticking: Men (nos 5 & 6) hit to their left – this determines direction of sticking.
1st sequence is 5 hits with 1, 2 hits 3, and 6 hits 4.   The rhythm of the hit is 1,2,3 (left, right, left), and rest on beat 4.
2nd sequence is 1 hits 2, 3 hits 4,  Men (5 & 6) rest.
3rd sequence is 5 hits 2, 1 hits 4, 6 hits 3.
4th sequence is 1 hits 2, 3 hits 4, Men rest.
REEL OF SIX 4 steps into line (ladies pass opposite by right shoulder), numbers 2 & 3 back to back, ending up as:

                                    5          1          2          3          4          6

                                    →         ←       ←       →       →         ←

12 steps for reel, and back to place.
Men (5 & 6) change places, by doing a reel of six along the line.
Women (1,2,3,4) only dance a reel for three, all end up back in place for the chorus.
CHORUS
SWINGS 1 & 2, 3 & 4 cross right shoulders for 4 steps,
5 & 6 take 1 step back, then 3 steps in so that all form 2 lines of three pairs across the set.
1 & 3, 5& 6, 2 & 4 left elbow swing for 4, then back into formation, but with the women on the opposite side to where they started.
Repeat this figure so that the women get back into their original places
CHORUS
CIRCLE Clockwise – sticks low in middle. The women take 8 steps round in complete circle, turn in (stick now in left hand), and take 8 steps back – anticlockwise. Meanwhile the men take 4 steps round (half the circle), then leave the circle and dance 4 steps outwards on left shoulder to make like a figure of 8 (whilst doing this put stick in left hand) and rejoin the women's circle which has just reversed direction. The men do another 4 steps in the main circle, and leave it to circle out for another 4 steps - all end up back to place.
CHORUS

                3                     4

                         6

                         5

                1                      2

DIAGONALS The men take 2 steps on spot, then 2 steps forwards to meet each other in centre. They then clasp waists, and swing slow for 10. Then 2 steps back to place.

Meanwhile, the women take 4 steps backwards to form square (see above). They then dance towards the swinging men, passing them on their left shoulders, moving anticlockwise to the diagonally opposite position i.e. 1 changes with 4, 2 changes with 3. Then 4 steps for small circle out on right shoulder (like figure of 8), and 4 steps anticlockwise, past the still swinging men, back to place.

THE DANCE THEN GOES THROUGH THE SAME MOVES, BUT IN THE REVERSE ORDER.
